Just across the state line from Siloam Springs, Natural Falls State Park is home to a stunning 77-foot waterfall that tumbles into a lush, fern-lined grotto. Formerly known as Dripping Springs — and famous as a filming location for the 1974 movie Where the Red Fern Grows — it’s one of the most scenic short hikes anywhere near Northwest Arkansas, and an easy day trip from Siloam Springs.

About Natural Falls

The centerpiece is the 77-foot waterfall, fed by springs and framed by mossy bluffs and ferns — a genuinely dramatic sight, especially after rain. The property was privately owned and known as Dripping Springs until 1990, when Oklahoma acquired it and made it a state park. Today it’s a well-kept park just a few miles west of the Arkansas line, technically in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, but treated by locals as one of Siloam Springs’ signature outings.

Trails & What to Do

  • Hiking — several miles of trails wind through the wooded ravine and around the park.
  • Camping — RV and tent sites, plus yurts, for an overnight stay.
  • Disc golf, playground & picnic areas — good for families making a day of it.
